Irvine Cross

irvine-cross_6279606016_oThe early planners of the town’s layout purposefully made High Street twice as wide so that it could be used for fairs and as a market space. The building in the middle of the image, the only one with its gable end facing the road, was home to a bookshop owned by William Templeton, which was one of Robert Burns’ frequent haunts while he stayed in the town.
