The New Town plan not only made provision for new shopping, new transit, new housing and new entertainment areas, but also new factories to create jobs for this newly expanded version of the town. The planners created modular designs, that they called “The Advanced Factory”, clean standardised units ready for any business to move into. However they did not liaise with actual businesses before they went into construction, and there were a number of problems with the units as they were designed, such as loading bays not actually being tall enough to receive full height trailers, and the generic design while flexible was not perfectly suited to anyone.
These low roomy factories were well received though, and many remain operational to this day, despite the economic downturn the town has had in the last decade.
